Why learn with Nick?

  • Calm, patient and friendly
  • Qualified, reliable driving instructor
  • Coaching to suit your preferred learning style

Since training in 2018, I’ve developed a reputation for creating a calm learning environment and coaching good driving habits so my pupils are thoroughly prepared for their test.

My pass rate is still over 70% with the majority being first time passes.  The average UK pass rate is around 50% and Currie is similar.

Provisional Licence

This licence enables the holder to practise with someone over 21 who has held a full driving licence for over 3 years.  You can apply to the DVLA once you are 15 years and 9 months old at a cost of £34.

Theory Test

From age 16 and 10 months, you can book your theory test.  This costs £23 and consists of two parts to test your knowledge of the Highway Code.  You must answer 43/50 multiple choice questions correctly, then click on the hazards in 14 short videos.

Practical Test

With a theory test pass, the driving test costs £62 and lasts around 40 minutes.  Pupils  must show their competence in a range of different driving situations, including manoeuvres and how to operate the controls.  Regardless of ability, this is a demanding test.  Edinburgh’s driving test centres are at Currie and Musselburgh.

Flexible lesson times

I prefer teaching when the roads are quiet Monday to Thursday, but I can accommodate evenings and the odd weekend especially close to your test.

Rates

£45 per hour.

Discounts available for block bookings.

Small print

There’s no formal contract, but I have a few simple rules:

  1. Lessons must be paid for in advance
  2. If I’m a few minutes late, I’ll always text in advance
  3. Any lessons cancelled within 48 hours may be charged, unless exceptional circumstances
  4. My car will always be clean and fully operational
  5. I reserve the right to refuse use of my car to take a test if I think it would be unsafe
  6. Both parties reserve the right to cease further lessons if it’s not working
  7. Refunds for any unused lessons will be at the standard rate excluding any block discount.

FAQs

The UK average is around 45 x one hour lessons. Every pupil is different, but I find it’s significantly more effective with 90 minute or two hour lessons, ideally with practice in between.

There is currently a long wait for both theory and practical tests. To speed things up, book your theory test as soon as you are able (you can do this before you are 17) and look for short notice cancellations.  Once you have booked tyour practical test, you can move it up to 6 times.
